What’s Included in the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta?

For our Open Beta, we wanted to give our Tōkon Warriors a better idea of what to expect in the upcoming full release of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls – even more characters and stages, optimized 4v4 team gameplay, an open online lobby space, casual and ranked matches, room matches (private lobbies), online and local matches, training mode, story elements and much more.  We hope you’re ready!

  • 72 hours of non-stop action from July 24th through the 26th PST.
  • Nearly double the characters since the previous beta!
    • Fighting Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther*
    • Unbreakable X-Men: Storm, Magik*, Wolverine*, Danger*
    • Amazing Guardians: Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker*
    • Samurai Outriders: Ghost Rider, Blade*
    • Knights of Doom: Doctor Doom, Magneto*, Green Goblin*
      • * = Newly added playable characters since the last Closed Beta Test (CBT).

  • Optimized Gameplay
    • Assist and tag are mapped to separate buttons.
    • Link combos only activate on hit or block, not on whiff.
    • Unique assist types (shooter, vertical, assault) can be called from neutral without using Assemble gauge resources and can be utilized during combos.
    • Aerial assists can also be activated when at double-jump height or higher.

  • Open Lobby
    • Experience the fully realized open lobby, each area is a miniature version of the game’s unique stages and environments.
    • Select from 16 Online Lobby Avatars – each modeled after the game’s playable characters and color sets.
    • Interact with other players with free chat, prefixed phrases, stamps, and emotes.
    • Approach one of the many arcade cabinets scattered throughout the map to challenge other players or wait for the next challenger to step up.
    • Want to quickly get into a match? With the simple press of a button, your avatar will be teleported to a cabinet with an available player of a similar skill set or to the next available cabinet.
  • Room Matches
    • Looking to play with a select group of friends? Set up or join a private room with Room Matches.
    • Each room can support up to 10 players and features 5 cabinets – 4 for playing matches against one another and 1 dedicated for online training.
    • Use the online training cabinet to hone your skills and lab combo routes together with a friend.
  • Casual and Ranked Matches
    • For those who prefer to hop on for a quick match, select Casual Match to be matched up with someone of a similar skill level.
    • For those who want to work your way up the rankings, select Ranked Matches to take on other players and work your way to the top.
  • Training
    • The perfect environment for labbing your characters, familiarize yourself with the inputs and mechanics, and discover your own unique combo routes.
    • Options include display options for command inputs, frame data, damage, and more.
    • Use a variety of training scenario presets, bot settings, or record and replay your own bot to find the optimal routes and strategies for all kinds of situations.
    • Drop the bot and lab with a friend in local 2P training.
    • For labbing with a friend online, create or join a Room Match and use the cabinet dedicated for online training there.
  • Start Up Battle
    • Broken out into three sections:
      • Familiarize yourself with the game’s movement and inputs.
      • Learn how to use various assist types and team-based mechanics, Universal offensive and defensive mechanics are also introduced here.
      • Test out your newly learned skills in a trial match.
  • Versus
    • Play against the CPU or with a friend locally!
  • Episode Mode
    • Experience a taste of the game’s story mode by playing through the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians story!

  1. When can I play MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls during the next PS5 Open Beta (OBT)?

    Players will have access to MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls for 72 consecutive hours, beginning Friday, July 24th at 12:00 AM PT / 8:00 AM BST/ 4:00 PM JST  and ending Sunday, July 26th at 11:59 PM PT / Monday, July 27th at 7:59 AM BST/ 3:59 PM JST.

     

  2. Which Heroes and Villains can I play during the beta weekend?

    The current playable roster includes 16 characters:

  3. Am I able to stream, screenshot, record, or share my gameplay of this PS5 Open Beta?

    Yes! Feel free to share your gameplay footage with anyone and everyone, and don’t forget to post your highlights in the #OpenBeta-clips channel on Discord (https://discord.gg/marveltokonofficial). We’d also love to see your content on social, so be sure to tag #MARVELTokon when you share!
     
  4. How do I sign up for the upcoming Open Beta event?

    No need to! This is an open beta. Simply download the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta from the PlayStation Store, the Steam Store, or the Epic Store once they become available. A PlayStation account and an internet connection is required to play the Open Beta.
    Pre-downloads will be available two hours before the Open Beta goes live on all platforms.
     
  5. I was a participant in the previous MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls PS5 Closed Beta Test (CBT) event, what do I need to do to be included in the upcoming Open Beta?

    Nope. Simply download the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta from the PlayStation Store, the Steam Store, or the Epic Store once they become available.
     
  6. Do I need a PlayStation® Plus subscription to take part in the PS5 Open Beta?

    No, a PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to participate in the upcoming PS5 Open Beta. However, an internet connection and a PlayStation Account are required to access and play the beta on both PS5 and PC.
     
  7. How do I create and link a PlayStation Account to play MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls online on PC?

    To play MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls online on PC, you'll need to create a PlayStation Account and link it to your game.

  8. I have encountered a bug while playing, what should I do?

    Please submit any bugs to the development team using this link: https://marveltokon.zendesk.com/hc/.

  9. Can I play the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta on my PC?

    Yes! The Open Beta will be playable on PS5, Steam and Epic.
     
  10. What can I do in the Open Lobby?

    Select one of the 16 playable avatar characters and approach a kiosk to jump into online matches with other players. Communicate via prefixed phrases, free chat, use emotes and chat stickers to express yourself and interact with other players in the lobby. Free chat cannot be used in Room Matches.
     
  11. Can I customize my Online Lobby Avatar?

    You can choose from a selection of 16 avatars.  Each avatar has four color options to choose from.
     
  12. During the PS5 Open Beta event, what game modes will be playable? Can I play offline?

    Online matches are playable via the Online Lobby, Casual and Ranked Matches and Room Matches. Other content includes Versus (1P vs CPU or local 1P vs 2P), Episode Mode (Chapters 1-3 of the Amazing Guardians’ story), Start Up Battle, and Training Mode.

    An internet connection and PlayStation Account are required to play all modes, including local 1P vs 2P Versus. 
     
  13. Is there a Training Mode?

    Yes! Pick your team, familiarize yourself with their inputs and mechanics, and lab to discover your own unique combos routes while referencing a variety of display settings for command inputs, frame data, damage and more. Use a variety of training scenario presets, bot settings, or record and replay your own bot to find the optimal routes and strategies for all kinds of situations. Also, feel free to drop the bot and lab with a friend in local 2P training.

    To train with friends online, create or join a friend’s Room Match and head to the cabinet that is dedicated for online training. Once both parties interact with the kiosk, they will be able to access an online version of the training mode and can lab there together.
     
  14. Do I need to be connected to the internet to play the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta?

    Yes, an internet connection and PlayStation Account are required to play all modes.
     
  15. Can I select the CPU difficulty?

    Yes, players can select from 5 levels of CPU difficulty in this beta test.
     
  16. Can I play against players from different regions?

    Yes, you can. After starting the game, you will be given a list of lobbies to choose from, with the “Recommend” option auto-selecting the best lobby based on your location.  When in a lobby, you can open the menu and select “Lobby List” to reselect and join any lobby that is not at maximum capacity.
     
  17. Is there a chat system?

    Yes, players will be able to use pre-determined phrases to communicate in the online lobby.  You can use emotes, chat stickers and free chat to express yourself while in the lobby.

    Room matches will be restricted to pre-determined phrases only.
     
  18. Will any data from the Open Beta be carried over to the full game at release?

    No data from the Open Beta will be carried over to the full game.
     
  19. Will there be any maintenance downtime?

    The Open Beta event is scheduled to run for 72 consecutive hours*, beginning Friday, July 24th at 12:00 AM PT / 8:00 AM BST/ 4:00 PM JST and ending Sunday, July 26th at 11:59 PM PT / Monday, July 27th at 7:59 AM BST/ 3:59 PM JST.

    *Please note: While the event is planned as a continuous 72-hour period, there may be brief interruptions if urgent or unexpected server maintenance is required. Players will be notified of maintenance windows via the in-game newsfeed, our Discord, and social channels.

     
  20. If the beta servers do go down, what should I do?

    In the event of any unexpected maintenance or server downtime, be sure to watch our X (Twitter) page [https://x.com/MARVELTokon] and the #announcements channels on Discord (https://discord.gg/marveltokonofficial) for live updates on when the servers will be restored.
     
  21. What languages will be supported in the Open Beta?

    The Open Beta will support the following languages:
    Voice and Text: English US, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese (VO: Mandarin)
    Text Only: English UK, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Traditional Chinese.
     
  22. I selected four characters for my team, but when the match begins, I only have access to the first two selected characters.

    In each match players will start with their first two characters available.  To assemble the rest of your team, you must meet one of the following conditions:

    Trigger a break by landing certain attacks or throws, landing select Skill attacks, or executing a successful light route Link Attack on the opponent near the edge of the screen will cause a stage transition or wall splat.

    Lose a round.
     
  23. Can I use an arcade stick or leverless controller?

    Yes. For PS5, any PlayStation 5 compatible arcade stick or leverless controller can be used to play the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta. You can customize your button inputs by accessing the button configuration menu from the Character Select Screen, mid-match Pause Menu, or from the Options Menu.

    For PC players, please confirm if your peripheral is compatible with your hardware setup.
     
  24. Is it okay to post my beta gameplay clips and stream the game?

    Absolutely—you’re encouraged to stream your matches, post your best clips, and show off your hype moments to friends, family, and the entire community. Feel free to drop your favorite beta highlights on Discord, and don’t forget to tag #MARVELTokon on social so everyone can see your great stuff!
